A soft, baby's cry interrupted the sleeping of Charlie and Renee in Forks, Washington. Charlie let Renee rest and went to get Isabella from her crib, picking her up and swaying her gently in the midnight light of the window. Bella quickly quieted from her father's touch, not knowing that, soon, they would be separated. When Bella was three months old, her mother took her and moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she settled down. They ended not-so-amicably, but Renee would never purposely keep their child from Charlie. Although their separation wasn't ideal, Bella did spend time with her father when time allowed, which was mostly during the summer. As she grew up mostly without him, though, Isabella learned not to rely on him too much. She loved him, but in a more distant way, as she did nearly everyone.

She was always quiet and liked to keep to herself. A clumsy girl, Bella was never one for athletics or even walking in straight lines. Instead, she always found herself tripping over her own feet and getting hurt for no reason. You know when you find a random bruise on your thigh and remember you walked into a table the previous day? For Bella, there are random bruises all the time on her, she just can't remember what she walked into to cause them. She views herself as a silly girl, very plain, very simple and nothing special at all. She's a soft person who's very kind, just distant from others. She's extremely forgiving and difficult to actually anger, though her sarcastic sense of humor comes out mostly when she's angry. She frightens easily, but typically faces danger head-on and dwells about her fear later. She's able to block painful thoughts and memories, though sometimes she thinks of them anyway to try to fix things.

As her mother is now moving to Florida, Isabella has decided to move to Forks with her father for the first time in her life. She's not necessarily thrilled about it, but she is happy that her mom has finally found happiness. Bella is a fairly selfless person and wants the best for her mother. She's trying to be optimistic about living with her dad, but the idea of a very wet environment isn't necessarily appealing. Still, Bella is in her last year of high school and is hoping for a good one despite having to move in the middle of it.
